Qeej (gender unknown)
Mouth organ with a gourd as wind chest
Pronunciation, according to Catlin "something like /kae ŋ/, with a falling tone", according to internet source: khength; Hmong people, China (a subgroup of the 苗[族] (Miáo[zú (minority)])), Laos (ແມ້ວ (Maew) or ມົ້ງ (Mong)), Myanmar (မုံလူမျိုး (mun lu-myo)), Thailand (แม้ว (Maew) or ม้ง (Mong)) and Vietnam (Mèo or H’Mông); Morrison states that "To the Hmong, the qeej is not an instrument designed to produce music; it is a bamboo voice that intones a highly stylized and ritualistic language. Thus "music" and "speech" are inseparable. The qeej is an instrument that communicates with the spirit world"; NB: ➺ Ggeh.
