Wojtas, [?] ("stary" [old])
?-? [19th century]maker of bagpipes (&c.) mentioned by name
Born and lived in Kamesznica [SW of Żywiec]; A maker of Gajdy and probably a piper; Around 1900, Paweł Haratyk of Koniaków bought one of his Gajdy; In an interview that Haratyk gave to Jan Tacina in 1950, we read that he bought a Gajdy from "stary" Wojtas* (➺ NB¹), who was a talented maker of Gajdy - the instrument still functions today [i.e. in 2014; ws] and, despite the fact that it is now more than a hundred years old, it still presents high class; He is considered "one of the great deceased builders" (➺ Jan Juroszek "Przigóniok", and Jan Kawulok "uod Wojtosza"); *NB¹: Katarzyna & Maciej Szymonowiczowie assume, that "because Haratyk used the term "old", Wojtas must have been born in the first half of the 19th century"; NB²: ➺ Sziańcziarski gajdy.
