Born and lived in Jaworzynka [SW of Istebna]; After World War II he began to play the bagpipe, which he learned from his uncle Jan Kulonek; He was a co-founder of the regional ensemble "Jaworzynka" (formed in 1955), in the band of which he played the Gajdy, together with violinist Czesław Koleniak; His daughter Alina also played the violin; With his wife Maria he ran, for a long time, an active Press and Book Club; According to Pilecki "he doesn’t play the Gajdy, currently [i.e. in the late 1960s; ws], due to the lack of an instrument" [thus giving the impression that Jan also played some other instrument; ws].
