Born in Cieszyn, she lived in Istebna [S of Wisła]; Daughter of Franciszka and Jan Kawulok "uod Wojtosza", who taught her how to play the Gajdy, other pastoral instruments, and violin; At his instigation she became involved, in 1955, in the "Regionalny Zespół Pieśni i Tańca [Regional Song and Dance Group of] Koniaków", of which she became the artistic director and held this position for ten years (1981-1991); After her father’s death, she started as a guide in the "Chata Kawuloka" [Kawulok cottage] in Istebna, which was founded by her father, where she passionately told about life in a mountaineer’s cottage, showing its characteristic design, and demonstrating how to play the Gajdy, Fujarka, Róg, Trombita, and her father’s Piszczałka sałasznikowa [sheep tender’s pipe], which is an unusually large Fujarka without fingerholes, the lower end of which is inserted in a 3-legged stool; Having won several awards, she was an honorary member of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF) and of the Polish public benefit organisation "Macierz Ziemi Cieszyńska" [Cieszyn Motherland]; A violinist, storyteller, and poet, she also was the most famous female piper of the region, but currently [i.e. 2014; ws] Dorota Gazurek-Cieślar (*1978) is the only woman in Istebna who plays the Gajdy; Coming from Istebna-Targowisko, Dorota began to play the violin at the age of 15, and two years later the Gajdy, which she studied with Zuzanna, and also with Rafał Wałach; In 1998 she ordered a Gajdy from Zbigniew Wałach (*1961); NB¹: ➺ Survey of female pipers; NB²: ➺ Jerzy Bestwina, Bernadeta Marekwica, and Michał Sikora "Sikorka". .
