Sourdeline / Sourdelinne (f)

(with) definite article: la
(the) ?

Bagpipe, mouth-blown: nr. of stocks? (2-4 pipes: chanter type? / [additional] drones? [in ? stocks])

Identical types: 2

From François Joseph Noël »Nouveau dictionnaire des origines, inventions et decouvertes, dans les arts, les sciences, la géographie, le commerce, l’agriculture, etc.«, tome II (Paris, 1827), in which the author clearly refers to the Italian Sordellina, attributed to Jean-Baptiste Riva, even though he actually only mentions the zampogna; NB¹: Also mentioned in »Les beaux messieurs de Bois-Doré«, vols. I (Paris, 1868; [nouvelle éd.: 1890]) & II, nouvelle éd. (Paris, 1890) by George Sand, who describes it as a "small type"; NB²: ➺ Campania, Italy; NB³: ➺ Sardellina & Sardëllina, Serdellina, Sordelina &c., Sourdeline and related terms. Surdelina & similar terms; NB4: ➺ Sourdelinier; NB5: According to Kuhač, "sourdellinne" [sic] can't be from the French, because "sourdeline" is too much akin to the Slavic word svirala [pipe] and the Indian s'ru [to listen] (which in my perception is a rather enigmatic - if not a chauvinistic - deduction); NB6: Jacquot defines and describes the instrument as an "Italian musette, with four chalumeaux [i.e. chanters (ws)]; invention attributed to J.-B. Riva, Dom Julien and Vincenze".
