Born and lived in Wexford; A tinsmith and horse dealer, commonly known as "Johnny Cash", he was a renowned travelling piper; He is one of the 54 "Famous pipers who flourished principally in the 2nd half of the 19th century" mentioned in O’Neill (Chapter XXI: p.222-278); His son, James (1853-1890), commonly known as "Young Cash", was also considered a fine piper; His daughter, Margaret, was the grandmother of Johnny and Felix Doran.
