Born in New Abbey House [NW of Kilcullen], Co. Kildare; A Gentleman piper, without whom, according to O’Neill, "no book on pipers and pipering would be complete"; For many years he named his horses after parts of the pipes ("Chanter", "Drone", &c.); He played before King George IV when that monarch visited Ireland (1821), and was presented with a set of (ebony, silver-mounted) pipes, now exhibited at Kilkea Castle, Maganey, Co. Kildare.
