Musso, Carlo

1873-1956
nickname(s): "Carlaja" [spelling according to Gioielli: "Carlaia"], "Pragaja" [dialect name of Pradaglia], and/or "Pregaja"

piper (&c.) mentioned by name

Born in Pradaglia [ESE of Alessandria, Val Curone, Piemonte]; He was a companion of Carlo Agosti "Carlon" (pifferaio of Gregassi, Val Curone), and of Giacomo Sala "Jacmon" (pifferaio of Cegni, prov. Pavia); With the latter he performed in Rome at the wedding of Prince Umberto; He was probably the last Müsa player, having been active at least occasionally until the early 1950s (Bruno Pianta states, 1976, that "given the current state of the research, by unanimous confirmation of all the informants contacted, it appears that no player is alive anymore"); Together with the chanter, drone, blowpipe and stocks of the Müsa that belonged to him, his reed box was discovered.

Instrument: Müsa di Pradaglia
