The main character in the story "Gajdosz z Kurajki" [The piper of Kurajka] (1953) by Karol Piegza (1899-1988); Described as the last piper of this hamlet of Jablunkov (CZ), who performed at weddings with pipers of Łomna [i.e. Horní/Dolní Lomná [WSW of Jablunkov]; ws], it remains unclear whether he was a real or fictitious person, but the story portrays the process of the decline of the musical culture of the pipers in the Beskid Zaolzie region; The story was published in Yearbook 7, nrs. 1-12 (62-73), Czeski Cieszyn, 1955, p.7-11, of Zwrot (a monthly, dedicated to social issues, education, culture and art), and reprinted in Piegza’s book »Opowiadania beskidzkie« [Stories of the Beskid mountains], Ostrava, 1971; NB: Zaolzie [Lands beyond the Olza river], or "Śląsk zaolziański" [Trans-Olza Silesia]), are Polish names for an area now in the Czech Republic; Between the two world wars the region was a source of dispute between Poland and Czechoslovakia; NB: ➺ Jerzy [Jura] Czepczor (PL).
