A unique example of a chanter with a conical bore and a single reed; In Atanasova (Bulgarian-English) erroneously translated as "drone", and in Stoyan Djoudjeff, »Rythmes et mesure dans la musique populaire bulgare« (Paris, 1931), misinterpreted as "blowpipe"; NB¹: ➺ homonyms; NB²: ➺ Fluier bulgăresc (Romania); NB³: ➺ Gayduritsa (Turkey).
NB4: ➺ Wood types used; Ferrules traditionally made of horn (nowadays [i.e. late 20th century; ws] often of plastic); It has a plagal scale: Džura gajda: mainly D (range: g¹-a²), but also C (f¹-g²), E (a¹-b²) or, very rarely, E♭ (a♭¹-b♭²) or F♯ (b¹-c♯²); Sredna gajda: mainly A (d¹-e²), but also G (c¹-d²) or B (e¹-f♯²).
