Close piping

playing technique, closing a hole before opening another

Closed fingering, in which only 1 or 2 fingers are lifted, to allow a required note to sound; This technique is only effective on a (temporarily) stopped chanter; Usually it is called the staccato style, but Breathnach considered that term misleading and preferred to call it the non-legato style; Often combined with Open piping; NB: ➺ Open/Closed fingering.
