Terzo (m)

(with) definite article: il
(the) 3rd (third)

medium drone, adjustable: conical, straight, bell, cavity? / double reed

Identical types: 7

Divergent, front centre; Marzi (prov. Cosenza), Cardinale (prov. Catanzaro) and San Giorgio Morgeto (prov. Reggio Calabria).

2 pieces (butt piece + bell), connected by tenon and mortise; Usually 290-360 mm, but note the considerably larger Trummune (588 mm) of the Zampogna a chiavi’nteri played by Alessandro Perri; NB¹: Leydi fails to provide us with a name, but taking the details he mentions in consideration (c²: 360 mm), he clearly calls it the small drone; Confusingly, the measures he mentions of a 4½ "palmi" don’t agree at all with the proportions shown in his tav. 26bis; If we accept his claim that the length of the small drone is 360 mm, this would influence the sizes of the other pipes in the drawing considerably (left-hand chanter: ca. 1460 mm, right-hand chanter: ca. 1080 mm, and the large drone: ca. 740 mm).
NB²: See my remark to the Zampogna a mezza chiave (details).
