Gajdek

This is a "double diminutive" of the Polish term Gajdosz (➺ Gajdoszek); Such endearing terms are rather common in Polish, but they also occur in other Slavic languages [ws]; Zaolzie region, Polish population, living in the surroundings of Jabłonków [Jablunkov; ws] and in Hyrczawa [Hrčava; ws], Moravian Silesia; The term occurs in the opening line of the folk song "Był tu jedyn gajdosziczek" [He was the only piper here], the language of which is clearly Polish; NB: ➺ Polish Gajdy śląskie for all remaining terminology.
