From William Shakespeare, »The merchant of Venice« (ca. 1598), act IV, scene 1; Suggested to be a corruption of Uilleann pipes (though more probably, from Ullan-piobe / Ullan pipes); NB: In several sources (Sachs, Baines, Breathnach, &c.) incorrectly spelt and referred to as Woollen pipe(s).
