Ceccola (f)
(with) definite article: laBagpipe, mouth-blown: 1 stock (single chanter + semidrone) / no drones
Said to be the bagpipe depicted in the 1455 painting "La Madonna dell’orchestra" by Giovanni di Piermatteo [or Pier Matteo] detto Boccati, which I doubt, since the pillar in this painting partly hides the chanter, rendering its determining details invisible (➺ the detail of the painting in Wikipedia) !
Wikipedia shows 2 reconstructions of this instrument, one of which (with a velvet decorative cover) has a semidrone with fingerholes on the 1st and 4th position, but unfortunately an explanation of their melodic function is not included in the text.
