Mentioned as a synonym of ascaules (= ὰσκαύλης) in »A Latin-English dictionary« (1880), by White and Riddle, who refer to Suetonius as their source; NB¹: The reference in WNT to Kiliaan is incorrect (➺ Vtricularius !); NB²: ➺ my remark to Panducarius.
