Pemprök (m)

(with) definite article: il
Highland bagpipe

Enigmatic, and utterly incorrect, spelling in Luigi Manfredi’s, “Costumanze pentre”, in Corriere del Molise, anno II, № 68 (Campobasso, 4 ottobre 1896); In his paragraph the author refers to Victor Hugo, who "makes us cry over the fate of the unfortunate Scots pemprök players who were killed at Waterloo..."; NB¹: In the French original the spelling is, however, “pibroch”, which clearly refers to the instrument (➺ Pibroch), rather than the modern spelling of Pìobaireachd; NB²: ➺ Penbrock.
