Krężelok, Jan [2]
1897-1987bagpipe maker, also a piper (or vv.) (&c.), mentioned by name
Born in Istebna [S of Wisła] and lived in Koniaków [SE of Istebna]; He was a piper, maker of Gaidy, and a violinist; Also a great singer, he accompanied himself on the bagpipe; His father Jan ("Pendyja"), a well-known piper, instilled a passion for mountaineers’ music in his son, who often accompanied his dad when performing on the Gajdy, observing the secrets of this difficult art; From his father he also learned how to build Gajdy and play on them, and he also repaired violins and watches; Because they thought that their son would not earn a living from playing, his parents reluctantly allowed him to play at home, but they told him to look for a better profession; Jan, however, had his own way; When he obtained his first violin, at the age of 14, his father secured young "Skotniorek" lessons by Jan Juroszek "Przigóniok" (which consisted in playing by ear the melodies played by the master); Finally, Jan began to play, occasionally, together with his father, he on the violin, his father on the Gajdy; They played at weddings and parties; Jan was married and they had seven children, one of whom was Antoni, who became a pipe maker, as well; Jan probably had a brother, Paweł (See my remark in the § on Jan Krężelok "Pendyja"); NB¹: ➺ Józef Haratyk, Alojzy Kuźma, Jan Małyjurek "Klimasek", and Franciszek Marekwica "Julka"; *NB²: ➺ Uncle (courteous title).
